Today WCG (World Cyber Games) announced their list of titles that will be officially supported for the 2010 competitive season, which for the first time dating back to their inaugural season in 2000, does not include StarCraft: Brood War. The history of WCG is inseparable from the rise of competitive esports across the globe, which has also coincided with the rise in StarCraft's own rise in popularity amongst competitive circles.
While this is a clear signal that the stars are aligning for StarCraft II's release and that we may yet see an announcement of support for SC2 from WCG as the game nears an official release date, it's clear that we most likely will not see any StarCraft competition from WCG in its 2010 season. I feel this then is an important time to take a moment and appreciate the last ten years of competitions, champions, and electrifying challenges brought to us.
